ReWritten - Tom Truss and Matthew Cumbie - CANCELLED

Sophia Gordon Center
Thursday, Jan 27, 2022 at 7:30 PM (ET) to Thursday, Jan 27, 2022 at 9:00 PM (ET)

Sadly, we are unable to present this program due to the rapid rise of Covid-19 cases in our area. Salem State has made the decision to remain in a remote modality through January 30. If you have purchased tickets we will refund your purchases directly. We also hope to bring this powerful work to campus at a later date.

ReWritten is a performance project that explores the often-silenced intimate relationship between authors Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville; moving between their lives, work, and their remaining letters, it uses this intergenerational queer love story that helped shape American literature as a portal to reflect on friendship, writing, social morés, letters and notions of queerness. Conceived of by Tom Truss and co-created with Matthew Cumbie, ReWritten brings movement, text, live music, visual art, and projection together to create multidisciplinary performances and a series of community engagements.

Co-creators and performers: Tom Truss and Matthew Cumbie
Dramaturgical direction and content advisor: Katherine Stubbs
Visual Design partners: Diane Samuels (visual design), Roma Flowers (projection design), and Jeremy Winchester (set and lighting design)
Film direction: Larry Burke
